Overview & Highlights

Restaurante La Llama is a charming bar & grill nestled in the heart of Plentzia, Bizkaia, offering an authentic taste of traditional Basque cuisine in a warm, intimate setting. This cozy spot, located on Madalen Aldapa street, captures the essence of a classic local tasca with its modest size and homely atmosphere, making every visit feel like dining in a close friend's home.

The menu at Restaurante La Llama is a celebration of hearty, comforting dishes that highlight the region’s rich culinary heritage. Diners consistently praise the quality and flavor of their offerings — from the crisp, refreshing ensalada mixta to the melt-in-your-mouth croquetas de jamón. The standout is undoubtedly the rabo de toro: tender oxtail simmered to perfection in a luscious, deeply savory sauce that coats every bite with layers of flavor. For those seeking something sweet, the creamy, smooth arroz con leche provides a perfect final note to the meal, delicately balancing the richness of the savory courses.

The dining experience at La Llama is intimate, with a small, well-kept dining room that fosters a sense of closeness and community. The atmosphere is unpretentious yet welcoming, enhanced by attentive and friendly service that makes guests feel genuinely cared for. While the interior is simple, the authenticity and passion conveyed through the food and hospitality leave a lasting impression.

Even visitors just passing through town find themselves drawn in by the genuine local vibe and excellent pintxos, perfectly paired with a good beer. However, it’s important to note that the restaurant operates on a cash-only policy, a charming nod to traditional practices that adds to its old-world appeal.

Though some may find the prices a bit higher compared to its humble setting, the quality and heart in each dish more than justify the investment. Restaurante La Llama is highly recommended for those who appreciate straightforward, traditional Basque cooking delivered with sincerity and warmth.

In summary, Restaurante La Llama offers a memorable and genuine culinary experience – a place where flavors are robust, the ambiance is cozy, and the service is warmly personal. It’s the kind of establishment that beckons you to come back, savoring each bite as if it were a treasured secret of Plentzia.

We were just walking to the beach, but wanted to cross the old town. Didn't even consider sitting in anywhere, but the atmosphere of the place sucked us in. It's a real local place with good beer and great pintxos. But take cash with you as they don't accept card.

Simple setting, honest food. Slightly salty for my taste, but good traditional food.
